Super fresh and citrusy with a little bit of added texture and complexity.
A typically bright, aromatic and fruity Vinho Verde from northern Portugal. This is a blend of Loureiro and Alvarinho showing ripe citrus notes of lime and orange blossom. The palate is crisp, with racy acidity, and a lovely grip owing to a small proportion of skin contact.
Wine: AZEVEDO Vinho Verde Loureiro/Alvarinho
Region/Country: Vinho Verde, Portugal
Grape/s: Loureiro and Alvarinho
Production Method: Gentle crush and fermentation in stainless steel, light batonnage
Style: Light and fresh with slight spritz.
Pairing Suggestion: Seafood, particularly shellfish
Profile: A very perfumed, fruit forward variety, most at home on the Northern coastline of the Iberian Peninsula where it is responsible for sumptuous white wines and blends, most famously Vinho Verde. It's typically dry and fresh with a salty tang and pronounced aromatics of citrus and tropical fruit. Some producers will use lees contact and oak to add texture and roundness, and these wines have the structure to age in bottle. However for the most part it is best enjoyed young, fresh and vibrant with seafood.
Classic Regions: Rias Baixas (Spain), Vinho Verde (Portugal)
When Fernando Guedes acquired this historic estate in 1982 he immediately set out to transform it, planting 35 hectares of vineyards in this cool, wet part of north-western Portugal. Fernando pioneered the production of quality Vinho Verde. Today, winemaker António Braga and his team continue to make some of the best wines from the region.
