The Sangreal Pinot Noir is the flagship wine for By Farr, perfectly expressing its unique site and Pinot Noir clones. Pinot Noir is best suited to cooler regions, including most famousl Burgundy in France where it produces the most sought after and expensive wines in the world. Thin skinned and early ripening, Pinot is a very transparent variety, capable of showing subtle differences in terroir and pronounced regional character. Flavours found in young Pinot include raspberries, strawberries, cherries and violets; with time these evolve into a bouquet often reminiscent of game, liquorice and autumnal undergrowth.

From their base in Geelong, around 80 kilometres southwest of Melbourne, Gary Farr and his son Nick make small quantities of single vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that rank with Australia's best. Gary has been making wine since the early 1980s in both Australia (at Bannockburn) and Burgundy (he worked 10 vintages at Domaine Dujac).
