Grassy and restrained Sauvignon Blanc of extreme class. Will develop in bottle too.

Silvery lemon yellow in the glass. Fresh and grassy perfumes lead to a lively, lifted palate with a mineral undertone. This Meriggio shows the characteristic high quality of all the Fontodi wines and finishes on a long, elegant note.

Producer: Fontodi

Region/Country: Chianti, Tuscany, Italy

Grape/s: Sauvignon Blanc

Production Method: Organic farming. Fermented in stainless steel vats at a maximum temperature of 20ºC. No malolactic fermentation was allowed to take place. The wine remained in stainless steel for six months before release.

Style: Grassy, citrusy and fresh

Pairing Suggestion: Seafood, light white meat dishes, aperitif

 Variety: Sauvignon Blanc

Profile: An extremely popular variety worldwide, capable of producing crisp, dry and aromatic whites. It is a very distinctive variety, carrying aromas of gooseberries, nettles, crushed blackcurrant leaves, and occasionally cat’s pee. The best examples offer some restraint of these natural characters, and flinty, smoky complexity to add intrigue. Some producers do utilise varying degrees of barrel fermentation to add texture and richness.

Classic Regions: Sancerre, Pouilly-Fume (France), Marlborough (New Zealand), Adelaide Hills (Australia), Casablanca (Chile)

Fontodi

Giovanni Manetti has run the property since 1980 and ensures the wines are as meticulously made as the vineyards and cellar are both immaculately tended. Giovanni's 90 hectares of vineyard, 90% of which are Sangiovese, are situated in the prime 'conca d'oro' (golden shell) of Panzano, giving wines of supreme elegance, intensity and longevity. Giovanni has converted to organic viticulture and is now following biodynamic principles in order to obtain the best quality fruit. In the winery, his approach is similarly non-interventionist in order to ensure that the quality of the fruit is preserved in the finished wine.
