Incredible depth, concentration and drive. A wine of extraordinary mineral length and complex character.
Wine: Mullineux Granite Chenin Blanc 2018
Region/Country: Swartland, South Africa
Grape/s: Chenin Blanc
Production Method: Sustainable farming. The juice is then racked to barrel for fermentation which is with indigenous yeasts and lasts for about 4 weeks. The wine is left in barrels, on its lees, until spring, during which time malolactic fermentation has completed.
Style: The Granite soils retain some moisture deep down, and the vines use this to retain a freshness to balance the texture. The palate is tight, long, flinty with notes of grapefruit and cinnamon spiced apples.
Pairing Suggestion: White meats, seafood, vegetarian dishes
Mullineux was established in 2007, when Chris and Andrea Mullineux settled in the Swartland wine region, 60 kilometers north of Cape Town. Within a very short time period the winery established itself as one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine brands, both locally and on the international front. The Swartland is perfectly suited to natural methods of farming. The approach at Mullineux is to work as naturally as possible, both in terms of their viticulture and in the winery, with sustainable farming in place and no additions made to any of the wines.
