A brooding Syrah with wonderful concentration yet remarkable vibrancy and natural lift. A wonder.

Wine: Mullineux Schist Syrah 2017

Producer: Mullineux

Region/Country: Swartland, South Africa

Grape/s: Syrah

Production Method: Sustainable farming. Whole bunch fermentation in open top fermenters with indigenous yeasts. A further four weeks of skin contact was given after which the wine was drained and pressed to barrel for malolactic fermentation and maturation.

Style: The most structured Syrah from Mullineux. Deeply fruited with lovely concentration and rippling tannin structure.

Pairing Suggestion: Grilled meats, roasted meats, charcuterie

Mullineux was established in 2007, when Chris and Andrea Mullineux settled in the Swartland wine region, 60 kilometers north of Cape Town. Within a very short time period the winery established itself as one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine brands, both locally and on the international front. The Swartland is perfectly suited to natural methods of farming. The approach at Mullineux is to work as naturally as possible, both in terms of their viticulture and in the winery, with sustainable farming in place and no additions made to any of the wines.
