This is unreal. Fresh and floral with that underlying meaty tone of all great Syrah. Wonderful intro the Mullineux style.
Wine: Mullineux Syrah 2017
Region/Country: Swartland, South Africa
Production Method: Sustainable farming. The must is initially pigeaged once a day. After about 4 days, fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts and the wine is pigeaged once or twice a day, depending on extract and tannin development. The wine is then pressed to barrel for malolactic fermentation and maturation.
Style: Notes of spicy citrus rind, black fruit, and violets, which follow through on the palate. The wine is elegant and restrained yet with good body and a silky texture balanced by a fresh, natural acidity.
Pairing Suggestion: Grilled meats, BBQ, roast dinners, cheese and charcuterie
Mullineux was established in 2007, when Chris and Andrea Mullineux settled in the Swartland wine region, 60 kilometers north of Cape Town. Within a very short time period the winery established itself as one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine brands, both locally and on the international front. The Swartland is perfectly suited to natural methods of farming. The approach at Mullineux is to work as naturally as possible, both in terms of their viticulture and in the winery, with sustainable farming in place and no additions made to any of the wines.
